the studio and gallery :: the construction

When we got up to the top of window height, we were back to full-length logs and we needed more help. So, like the cavalry, my Dad showed up with Lou and Gary, his two workers. You've heard the term "strong as an ox" - well, these two are the perfect example of this. They both work for my Dad in the floor-covering business, which is hard and heavy work, so lifting logs weighing nearly ½ ton was right up their alley. After a few logs and many exhausted muscles, we got smart and called Ed to lift the rest into place with his backhoe.
Once the log pen or "crib" was up, it was time for a roof. On roofing day, an extra crew of Amish workers showed up and the roof went on like they really knew what they were doing. We fitted it with tin (steel), so that the rain would make that classic sound - it does, and it's great!
