the studio and gallery :: historic boalsburg village
The Ken Hull Studio & Gallery is located in the heart of Historic Boalsburg Village, just minutes from State College, PA and Penn State University's University Park Campus. It is located at 101 N. Academy Street, only a few steps back from Main Street.
Historic Boalsburg is the birthplace of Memorial Day! Founded in 1808 by Scotch-Irish, it was originally named Springfield because of the large fresh-water spring at the base of the mountain. The village was laid out in 1811, when quarter-acre lots sold for $75. Main Street was part of the original Kings Highway that provided stagecoaches with a route from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Today, Boalsburg Village has a wonderful mix of shopping, dining, B&B's and residences. Some folks even have small businesses in their homes. Just steps from the studio & gallery is Duffy's Tavern, built in 1819 as a stagecoach stop, and now a great pub and fine dining restaurant. The village is nestled at the base of Tussey Ridge, a small mountain range perfect for hiking and mountain biking.
Some special occasions in Historic Boalsburg Village include:
